Elective Egg Freezing

At Hannam Fertility, we can help you preserve your fertility until you’re ready to have a baby, by combining advanced egg-freezing techniques with our world-leading IVF treatments.

Why Egg Freezing is Important

With egg freezing, you can support your future self by being your own egg donor.

While most reproductive aged women can anticipate a natural conception, a second (or third) pregnancy may be more difficult to achieve.

You can be aided in this decision by getting an AMH test. This simple blood test can be done at home or onsite at our clinic. The test sets expectations for how many eggs you are likely to be able to freeze from a single stimulation. We hope to see 10 or more. Freezing is usually most effective 28 to 34y, but we suggest you speak with your clinical team to personalize your decision.

The most important part of the egg freezing experience will happen in the lab. Our CCRM team works within a centralized framework that can implement vast resources and data. CCRM laboratories lead the field in 11 major North America cities, implementing cutting edge technology and unmatched quality control. We are proud to bring one of the most respected IVF labs in the world to join us in our mission to care for women in Toronto.

How Egg Freezing Works

1

Fertility Assessment

You’ll meet with one of our expert doctor to discuss your needs, go over your medical history, help you understand your options, and give you a sense of what you can expect from the process. After that, we’ll start running tests, including blood work and a vaginal ultrasound, which will allow us to properly assess your current fertility potential and develop a personalized fertility treatment plan.

2

Ovarian Stimulation

The next step is hormone injections, which stimulate your ovaries to produce as many eggs as possible. You’ll need to come to our office every few days during this stage of the process, so we can keep an eye on how you’re responding to the injections and adjust your doses as needed. After your eggs have matured, your doctor will give you a different injectable medication that will release your eggs, starting ovulation.

3

Egg Retrieval

Thirty-five hours after your doctor administers the “trigger shot,” they perform a minor surgical procedure to collect your eggs, in which ultrasound is used to place a needle through the wall of your vagina into the follicles. (Note that you’ll be under anesthesia for this procedure and need someone to drive you home, and stay with you until the anesthesia wears off.) You’ll be able to go back to work within 24 to 48 hours.

4

Freezing

After we have successfully retrieved your eggs, all of the mature eggs will be vitrified (which is to say, rapidly frozen) and stored securely until you’re ready to use them. Our team will let you know how many mature, healthy eggs were frozen successfully. The entire process, from the initial fertility assessment to the freezing of mature eggs, usually takes between two to three weeks for most patients, may vary depending on your situation.
